More information

This mixture is composed of annual, biennial, or perennial wildflowers that are present in France. It creates a natural space in the garden, with flowers and seeds providing a resource for birds, beneficial insects, and pollinators. It is best to sow the seeds in September-October, or in March-April, broadcast in well-prepared and loosened soil. Flowering takes place from May to September. This meadow is easily established and lasts 2 to 4 years.

Description

'Wild flowers of France' is a mixture of species that grow and bloom spontaneously in meadows, fields, wastelands or by the roadside. Robust and undemanding, they provide shelter and cover for many beneficial insects, pollinators, and birds, thus helping to safeguard our ecosystems. The seeds should be broadcast directly in place in the sun, in well-prepared soil. The resulting bed will bloom for two to four years, from spring to summer.

This selection consists of 9 species of annual plants and 12 species of perennials or biennials. Annuals bloom 6 to 8 weeks after sowing, biennials bloom in the second year, while perennials bloom from the second or third spring. All these plants grow rather quickly and some spontaneously reseed in the garden, in light and well-draining soil. The size of the flowering plants ranges from 40 to 70cm (16 to 28in) in height.

The mix includes: Achillea millefolium, Calendula officinalis, Centaurea cyanus, Chrysanthemum segetum, Daucus carota, Leucanthemum vulgare, Linum perenne, Papaver rhoeas, Sanguisorba minor, Saponaria vaccaria.

Wildflowers bloom throughout the summer season. This kind of sowing restores ecological balance. These flowers require very little maintenance, just water a little from time to time (especially during periods of prolonged drought). Invite nature into your garden: sow this seed mix in a somewhat neglected area of the garden, near an orchard, on a large embankment, or at the bottom of the garden.

Planting and care

Ideally, sow in September-October, or from February to early May.

Turn over the soil. Refine, rake, and level the ground, and remove pebbles and weeds. Mix the contents of the packet with an equivalent volume of dry sand to obtain a better distribution of the seeds. Broadcast on the surface. Roll or pack the soil to bring the seeds into contact with the soil. Water and keep moist until emergence.

Sow approx. 5g per m².

Mow as late as possible in the season, or even at the end of winter. This way, the plants will have time to produce seeds that will fall to the ground and spontaneously reseed in the garden. You can do a simple cleanup at the end of winter.
