Description

Annual Mallow 'White Regis' displays large, flared corollas of pure white. Each measures 8-10 cm across, with gorgeous, silky petals with delicate veining. Grow alongside Sweet Williams, dwarf roses or sage for summer bedding schemes full of poetry and colour.

Lavatera trimestris or annual mallow belong to the Malvaceae family. It is native to the Mediterranean basin, occurring naturally in rocky, coastal areas. 'White Regis' features large, very flared, pure white trumpet-shaped blooms, measuring 8-10 cm in diameter. This floriferous variety blooms from July to October. The medium green leaves are palmate and lobed, appearing on very bushy plants which grow to a height of 60 cm to 1 m depending on the conditions.

For best results, provide your annual mallow plants with a sunny position, preferably sheltered from strong winds. Annual mallow thrives in light, perfectly drained soils. Regularly remove spent flowers to encourage new blooms all season long!

Planting and care

Sow in a heated greenhouse from March to May. Bury the seeds under 1 cm of soil. When the seedlings are strong enough to be handled, transplant one every 30 cm. Alternatively, direct sow from May to June when the soil is warmed through. Ideally, outdoor temperatures should be around 18°C for optimum germination rates. Germination generally takes about 14 days. Annual mallow enjoys light, well-drained soils, a sunny position that is preferably sheltered from strong winds and torrential rain.
