Aquilegia viridiflora Chocolate Soldier - Columbine Seeds

Aquilegia viridiflora 'Chocolate Soldier' is a rare perennial plant whose abundant and elegant flowers in a deep brown grandmother's bonnet will captivate both amateurs and collectors.

Originating from Siberia and Western China, 'Chocolate Soldier' is not afraid of winter cold. It blooms from May until July. Each stem carries 2 or 3 terminal spurred flowers, which lean forward slightly. The flowers are lightly fragrant.

Its compact habit (30 to 35cm (12 to 14in) tall) makes it an ideal plant for borders and rockeries. It will also find its place in a cottage garden flower bed or a potted arrangement on a patio.

Like all columbines, it thrives in both full sun and partial shade and easily tolerates moist soil. Aquilegia viridiflora 'Chocolate Soldier' self-seeds and gradually forms beautiful flowering clumps.
