Description
Coleus 'Rainbow Mix' is a popular selection of hybrid varieties, with spectacular variegated foliage in a wide array of shades including purple, coppery red, garnet red, absinthe green and cream. Suitable for beds, borders and pots!
Coleus blumei is a herbaceous plant, generally grown as an annual in the flower garden due to its low tolerance to frost. It can also be grown as a perennial indoors. 'Rainbow mix' is a popular collection that displays a large range of colours including cream, scarlet red, garnet red, copper red, bronze and purple. Coleus is easy to grow from seed and low maintenance, bringing great colour to the garden from spring until the first frosts. The plants reach 50 cm in height for a spread of 30 cm. They produce small, pinkish flowers from June to October, however they are hardly noticeable against the brightly coloured, variegated foliage.
This robust plant is ideal as a focal point in flower beds and borders. The colouring of its foliage varies according to the intensity of the sunlight. Equally happy in a container or in the open ground, inside or outside, Coleus are wonderfully versatile. They thrive in light, rich soil in full sun or part shade.

Planting and care
Sow under cover at a temperature of 22°C, in a mixture of 3/4 potting soil and ¼ coarse sand. Bury the seeds under half a centimetre of soil. Germination usually takes 15 days. Thin out the weakest seedlings and pinch the stems of the remaining ones to encourage branching. Water regularly. Transplant into pots or in the garden, leaving at least 30 cm between each plant.
