Cosmos bipinnatus Cosmos Double Click Mixed

This mix of Cosmos Double Click Mixed (TM) annuals brings together large double or semi-double flowers in all colors; from June to the first frost, these plants offer a profusion of solid or bicolored flowers, adopting a whole range of pink, red, and white shades. The plants in the Double Click Mixed mix are all derived from an annual species native to Mexico and the extreme south of the United States, Cosmos bipinnatus. This non-hardy annual plant, related to Dahlias, belongs to the Asteraceae family and shows a characteristic inflorescence in the form of a head and particularly fine foliage, which is described as pinnate, reminiscent of fennel. 'Double Click Mixed' quickly forms clumps 90 cm (35.4 in) to 1 m (3 ft 4 in) tall and 50 cm (19.7 in) wide. Flowering begins in June-July, 60 to 90 days after sowing, and lasts until October, only stopping with the first frost. The heads measure 5 to 7 cm (2 to 2.8 in) in diameter and are composed of several crowns of petals with a varied appearance and color. Depending on the plants, they can be white, light or bright pink, red, mauve, solid or bicolored. The center of the flower is made up of a golden disc. They attract many insects and butterflies, including the Monarch. The foliage is finely divided into thread-like segments, barely 0.5 to 1 mm (0 in) wide, and is slightly and pleasantly scented. After flowering, the plant produces blackish achenes in the shape of a spindle, more or less bristly.

Able to fill a border on its own, the Cosmos Double Click Mixed offers an abundance of simple childlike patterned flowers in an almost limitless combination of colors. These are flowers made for beginners, almost impossible to fail. Its flowering is foolproof: poor soil, heat, humidity... Give it some sun and, no matter what, it will bloom. This tall plant brings a lot of verticality to borders and lightness to the heavier flowering of perennials. During flowering, the plant may collapse under its weight, due to wind or showers. This problem can be solved by grouping the plants so that the leaves interlock. It is used in wildflower meadows, mixed with fescues, grasses like Stipa tenuifolia, Buenos Aires verbena, or among perennials that love the sun as much as it does, such as bidens and rudbeckias. Its fascinating flowers have excellent vase life.
