Description
Cosmidium burridgeanum Philippine is an annual plant native to Texas, easy to grow and appreciated for its many benefits.
- Sowing it is easy and can be done directly in place.
- Undemanding, it is perfectly suited for creating groups in dry soil. Indeed, there is no need to water it, it will be satisfied with rainwater even if it is scarce.
- Its compact habit, 30-40 cm (12-16in) gives it a good presence in groups.
- Its abundant flowering is constantly renewed from July until the first frosts.
- Its bicolour flowering: a chocolate heart bordered with gold, catches the eye.
- Its nectar-rich flowers attract pollinating insects to your garden, thus improving the quality of its ecosystem. This will be particularly interesting for the production of fruits and vegetables.
- There are no specific diseases or parasites associated with this plant.
Planted in groups in rich and well-drained soil, Cosmidium burridgeanum Philippine will give a rustic effect to your garden. Planted in a pot on the patio or balcony, it will add a touch of colour and warmth throughout the summer. However, choose a sunny location for it to give its best.

Planting and care
Sow Cosmidium burridgeanum Philippine in March-April in a seed tray. Use good quality soil, possibly enriched with compost. Sow your seeds by broadcasting them. Cover the seeds by sprinkling soil on top or vermiculite, lightly press down and water generously with a fine rain. Place your pots in light, without direct sunlight, at a temperature of 15 to 20°C (59 to 68°F).
The seeds will germinate in 7 to 14 days. As soon as the plants reach a height of 10cm (4in), transplant them into pots. 15 days before their final placement, start gradually acclimating them to a temperature of 15°C (59°F).
By the end of May or early June, the temperature will be warm enough in the garden to plant your young plants. Choose a sunny location. Add a good scoop of compost to each planting hole. Space your plants 25 to 30cm (10 to 12in) apart.
It is possible to sow Cosmidium directly in the garden, but you will have to wait until the risk of frost is gone, around mid-May.
