Description
We are introducing this collection of annuals with a "Burgundy Rhapsody" inspiration, to extend the mysterious and chic atmosphere of our spring-summer 2023 catalog to your terrace or balcony. It brings together 4 varieties of annual plants, carefully chosen for their colour and abundance of flowering or foliage. The rich tones of purple, violet, sometimes very dark, are refreshed by blue tones and enhanced by the silver foliage of Helichrysum. Between May-June and October, they create a magnificent setting. This collection is sold in a set of 5 plug plants, and contains:
2 x Sage or Salvia splendens 'Gogo Purple': this plant produces dense, very dark, purple-violet flower spikes that last for months and its strong growth allows it to reach 1 m (3ft) tall in just a few months.
1 x Sweet Potato Vine or Ipomoea batatas 'Illusion Midnight Lace': an elegant dome of uniquely dark foliage, black with deep purple reflections, strongly divided into elongated lobes. This plant is ideal for hanging baskets and containers and can also make a very distinctive ground cover. Height 20 cm (8in), spread 30 cm (12in) minimum.
1 x Silver Licorice or Helichrysum petiolare 'Silver': a frost-tender, creeping perennial plant with small evergreen leaves that form beautiful silver domes, truly luminous. Its trailing growth makes a sensation in rockeries, troughs, and hanging baskets. Height: 30-50 cm (12-20in). Spread: 60-80 cm (24-32in).
1 x Surfinia Petunia 'Heavenly Blue': an excellent variety with heavenly blue flowers, a rare colour in the garden. The plant combines vigorous growth with a unique habit, both compact, upright, and trailing, and excellent resistance to poor weather conditions. Its unmatched floribundity and beautiful heat resistance naturally make it suitable for hanging baskets. Height: 25-30 cm (10-12in), spread: 80-90 cm (32-35in).
The "Burgundy Rhapsody" collection of annuals allows you to effortlessly create a beautiful summer scene for your terrace or balcony. They are perfect in hanging baskets, containers, or pots, but their heat tolerance also allows them to be used in the open ground, where they will form a beautiful border. They can be planted alone or mixed with small white flowers (such as Angelonia 'Angelface Carrara White') or silver cinerarias, for example. A touch of pale pink (Annual Poppy 'Lilac Pompom') will also soften the overall look. The choice is vast and allows for imagination and the preferences of every gardener, even inexperienced ones.
Note: Please be aware that our young plug plants are professional products intended for experienced gardeners. Upon receipt, transplant and store them in a sheltered location (conservatory, greenhouse, cold frame...) at a temperature above 14 °C (57.2°F) for a few weeks before planting them outside, once the risk of frost is definitively over.

Planting and care
You can plant these annuals in the ground or in a pot. If you wish to plant them in the ground, in soil enriched with compost, wait until the last heavy frosts have passed. In the meantime, you can pre-grow them in a pot in a warm and bright location to accelerate their development. They will flower from May-June to October. Plant them in a sunny location sheltered from the wind. They need a light and humus-rich, but above all, well-draining soil, and they are sensitive to stagnant water. Do not water them too much at the beginning of their growth, as they can be sensitive to excess moisture. Fairly water-efficient, these plants will need regular watering during particularly hot summer periods. Very floriferous and fast-growing, they are hungry plants. We recommend feeding them with a liquid fertiliser for geraniums or a fertiliser for surfinias once or twice a week during the growing season. Although not obligatory, you can remove faded flowers and dry leaves as they appear to keep the plants looking good and extend the flowering period.

- In zone 5 (Central Europe, Scandinavia), blooming will be delayed by 3 to 5 weeks.
In temperate climates, pruning of spring-flowering shrubs (forsythia, spireas, etc.) should be done just after flowering.
Pruning of summer-flowering shrubs (Indian Lilac, Perovskia, etc.) can be done in winter or spring.
In cold regions as well as with frost-sensitive plants, avoid pruning too early when severe frosts may still occur.
