Very small but very persistent plants. They will grow bigger. I have planted them all, and those that are meant for the cemetery are growing, I have put them in foster care for a few weeks before delivering them to nature, where the nights are cool.

Description

Pelargonium 'Icecrystal' bears beautiful semi-double flowers, with each lavender petal marked with a central pink-purple spot. They are gathered in bouquets on a vigorous perennial plant with a compact and round habit. Its healthy foliage is bright green shaded with a large burgundy red zone. With its floral roundness, this perennial plant is a gem for small gardens, hanging baskets, and planters.

Zonal pelargoniums are perennial hybrids from the Geraniaceae family, in a large group called Pelargonium x hortorum. They are mostly derived from P. inquinans, native to the southeast tip of Africa, with contributions from P. zonale and P. frutetorum. 'Icecrystal' forms a medium-sized bushy and upright clump with a fairly compact habit, reaching a height of 30 to 35cm (12 to 14in) and slightly less in width. It flowers from spring to autumn, displaying large heads composed of medium-sized, vibrant bicoloured flowers. They contrast nicely with the bright green foliage. Each leaf is adorned with a large brown-red halo. Its sturdy and succulent stems bear circular, undulate leaves with toothed edges and a thick texture.

Once reserved for balconies and patios, pelargoniums are making a noticeable entrance into sunny flower beds and borders. Plant them en masse to create a lasting and vibrant display throughout summer. These plants tolerate water scarcity quite well, allowing them to be combined with garden verbenas, blue lobelias, and black or purple-leaved ipomoeas (Ipomoea Illusion 'Midnight Lace', I. Sweet Heart 'Purple'). Create magnificent pots and hanging baskets by combining them with bright pink or red varieties, Million Bells, variegated periwinkles, Dichondra 'Silver Falls', violets, and calibrachoas.

Please be aware that our young plug plants are professional products intended for experienced gardeners. Upon receipt, repot and store them under cover (veranda, greenhouse, cold frame) at a temperature above 14°C (57.2°F) for a few weeks before planting them outdoors, once the risk of frost has definitely passed.

Planting and care

Zonal geraniums thrive in fertile, well-drained, well-prepared, neutral to alkaline soils. They love full sun. Geraniums are hungry plants, which require regular fertiliser inputs to give their best performance. You can plant pelargoniums as early as March-April in regions with mild climates, but you will need to bring them indoors in case of frost. To avoid any risk, wait until all danger of frost has passed before placing them outside. When planting in pots or containers, use special geranium compost. In the garden, wait until late April or even mid-May to plant them in open ground, and provide a special geranium growing support for your soil.
