Description

Oenanthe javanica Flamingo is a perennial herbaceous plant found in marshes, ditches, and wet meadows. It stands out with its bright green foliage edged with pink and white. Its long, upright, hollow and striped stems produce creeping shoots. The leaves resemble celery, and are divided into segments that become narrower as you go up the stem. Each umbel of small white or pink flowers is composed of a small number of umbellules. The round fruits form a globe.

Oenanthe fistulosa grows rapidly to form dense and sprawling clumps and thrives on the banks of a pond. Its water-purifying function is also useful. It is important to control its spread by regularly removing excess rooted stems.

It is found in Europe and beyond the Ural Mountains, and is quite common up to an altitude of 700m (2297ft).

Oenanthe comes from the Greek word "Ainos" which means wine, and "Anthos" which means flower, referring to the wine-like scent of the flowers.
