More information

A duo of Fragrant Violets that brings together the Viola odorata Alba, with its delicately scented white flowers, and the Viola odorata, with its violet flowers. These two small perennials bloom in spring and prefer a soil rich in humus and a semi-shaded exposure. They self-seed themselves everywhere in shady areas, even dry ones, and form carpets where many perennials struggle to grow.

Description

This Duo of Fragrant Violets brings together the Viola odorata 'Alba' with white flowers and the Wild Sweet Violet (Viola odorata) with violet flowers. These are small perennial ground cover plants with deciduous foliage that grow without care in slightly shaded areas of the garden. They spread through short stolons, eventually forming charming ground covers or pretty borders. In March-April, their numerous small flowers emit a delightful fragrance.

The collection consists of:

x 1 White Fragrant Violet (Viola odorata 'Alba'): its delicately scented white flowers bloom between March and June, depending on the climate. Its vegetation reaches a height of 15 cm.

x 1 Fragrant Violet (Viola odorata): this is the European violet, spontaneous in forests, with violet flowers. Its other characteristics are identical to the 'Alba' form. The flower of the fragrant violet is commonly used in pastry; the leaves are also edible.

Plant these fragrant violets in spring or autumn in humus-bearing soil that remains slightly moist until early summer. Prefer a semi-shaded location. Maintain a spacing of 25 cm between plants and count 8 plants per square metre.

Associate these fragrant violets with companions such as 'Palace Purple' Coral Bells, Wood Forget-Me-Not (Myosotis sylvatica), and Spotted Deadnettle (Lamium maculatum 'Roseum'). These perennial plants will create a beautiful combination of colours and shapes in slightly shaded areas of the garden.
