Alocasia Pink Dragon - Elephant's ears plant

Alocasia 'Pink Dragon' is an attractive cultivar of this houseplant, also known as Elephant's Ear. It stands out due to its pink stems, a colour not found in the leaf, which visually contrasts. They bear glossy, lush, dark green leaves with pale grey veins. Its colour combination gives 'Pink Dragon' a refined appearance. Medium-sized, it will decorate a living room or a bedroom, placed on a stylish piece of furniture or on the floor on a pedestal, provided it receives bright, indirect light. Keep its substrate slightly moist but not waterlogged.

Alocasia 'Pink Dragon' belongs to the Araceae family, which includes many tropical plants with spectacular foliage. This horticultural cultivar, originally known as Alocasia 'Aurora' in Thailand, was introduced to Europe under the name 'Pink Dragon'. At maturity, it reaches a height of approximately 50 to 80 cm and a spread of 40 to 60 cm. The plant has an upright habit and moderate growth. Its broad, heart-shaped leaves have a glossy texture and a dark green hue that contrasts with pale veins. Although flowering is rare indoors, this variety may occasionally produce small white spathes with little ornamental value. Native to the tropical undergrowth of Southeast Asia, the botanical species grows naturally in rich, well-drained soil under dense, humid cover. These conditions explain its specific needs: bright but indirect light indoors, high humidity (around 60-80%), and a constant temperature between 18 and 27°C. Its leaves and stems contain toxic compounds that may cause irritation if ingested.
