Description

Alocasia reversa is a beautiful botanical species, with reversed patterns compared to alocasias like 'Polly', the most well-known. This Elephant's Ear develops thick, glossy, rather smooth leaves, with a grey-green surface, marked by dark green midrib veins. The leaf is edged with a bright green margin, matching the petiole. Just as exotic and striking as its relatives, yet even brighter, this plant with moderate growth is perfect for compact spaces. To ensure successful cultivation, provide it with bright light, such as a well-lit room, but avoid direct sunlight, and keep its substrate slightly moist without overwatering.

Alocasia reversa belongs to the Araceae family, which includes many tropical plants with spectacular foliage. Native to Borneo, this botanical species is found on limestone outcrops in its natural habitat. It stands out for its modest size: at maturity, it reaches a height and spread of around 30 to 45 cm. The plant has an upright habit and slow growth. Its broad and elongated heart-shaped leaves have a glossy, leather-like texture. Although flowering is rare indoors, this variety occasionally produces small white spathes with little ornamental value. The botanical species naturally grows in rich, well-drained soil under dense, humid cover. These conditions explain its specific needs: filtered light, high humidity (around 60-70%), and a consistent temperature between 15 and 27°C. Its leaves and stems contain toxic compounds that may cause irritation if ingested.

Alocasia reversa is sought-after for its ornamental qualities. Its exotic and refined appearance blends seamlessly into a minimalist style, where it becomes a focal point, as well as into a Scandinavian-inspired or sophisticated jungle-themed setting. Consider placing a humidifier nearby. Pair it with plants sharing similar needs, such as other Araceae like Monstera or Philodendron, or even Maranta.
