Description

Amsonia hubrichtii is a deciduous plant with feathery foliage that forms large and very flexible bushy clumps up to 80 cm (32in) tall over time. The very pale blue flowers are open tubes grouped in a paniculate inflorescence and bloom abundantly between May and July. The leaves are dark green, lanceolate and very narrow with smooth edges, resembling those of a willow. The deciduous foliage takes on beautiful autumn colours, turning golden yellow or even orange before disappearing for a winter rest.

Amsonia hubrichtii is native to the Ouachita Mountains in central Arkansas, United States. These plants are very hardy and grow easily in full sun or partial shade, in well-drained and moist soil that does not dry out in summer.

A magnificent ornamental plant for gardens, its dense foliage enhances all its neighbours. You can easily integrate it into a perennial bed with natural-looking plants such as geraniums or with grasses that prefer moist soil.

The species name is derived from the name of the American botanist Leslie Hubricht, who first discovered this plant in the wild in the 1940s. As for the genus name, it was borrowed from the Virginian physician Charles Amson (18th century).
