Description
Anaphalis triplinervis 'Sommerschnee' is a lovely perennial ground cover for sunny and well-drained soils with everlasting flowers that resemble small white and pearly daisies. Its inflorescences are composed of bracts with silver reflections, and its fine grey-green foliage is covered with a thick white felt. It is a resilient and undemanding plant, perfect for rockeries or sunny slopes. Its paper-like flowers are stunning in fresh bouquets and dry beautifully.
Anaphalis triplinervis, also known as Himalayan Everlasting, is a plant from the Asteraceae family, native to the Himalayan mountains, specifically from Tibet, Afghanistan, northern India, Nepal, and Bhutan. In its natural environment, this deciduous to semi-evergreen herbaceous perennial grows on rocky and limestone soils that remain slightly moist during the growing season. The 'Sommerschnee' cultivar, from which it originates, is possibly a hybrid of Anaphalis nepalensis, a Chinese species with a more spreading habit and very woolly and white foliage. 'Sommerschnee' forms a 30 cm (12in) tall cushion when in bloom, which spreads over time thanks to non-trailing rhizomatous stems. Its semi-evergreen foliage is composed of small, pointed, very hairy leaves, measuring 1 to 4 cm (1 to 2in) in length, covered with white wool and crossed by 3 deep veins. They are arranged in basal or terminal rosettes on short, erect or ascending stems. Flowering occurs from July to September, in the form of clusters of small round, white and pearly buds that open into approximately 3 cm (1in) wide heads. Several rows of bracts, resembling slightly leathery petals, are arranged around a small golden-yellow centre and dry to perfection.
Anaphalis triplinervis 'Sommerschnee' is a lovely, hardy plant that remains beautiful throughout the summer and until the end of the season. Easy to grow, it only dislikes excessively wet, heavy soils that become waterlogged in winter. This everlasting thrives in rock gardens and along borders in a slightly wild garden, where it makes a good ground cover. This alpine plant pairs well with Carpathian Bellflower, saxifrages, aubrietas, and of course, edelweiss. Its flowers can easily be incorporated into dried flower arrangements. To do so, they should be cut before they fully open and before the white fuzz on the stems and foliage fades. The stems can then be tied into small bundles and hung upside down in a cool, shaded, and well-ventilated place.

Planting and care
Anaphalis is a mountain plant, and prefers well-drained but rather moist soil. It does not tolerate drought and prefers full sun or, at most, partial shade on a rather chalky and normally fertile soil that does not completely dry out during the summer. In poor soil, a slow-release fertilizer at the start of the growing season will be appreciated. Cut back the clumps in March to encourage the emergence of beautiful new foliage.

Hardiness is the lowest winter temperature a plant can endure without suffering serious damage or even dying. However, hardiness is affected by location (a sheltered area, such as a patio), protection (winter cover) and soil type (hardiness is improved by well-drained soil).
The flowering period indicated on our website applies to countries and regions located in USDA zone 8 (France, the United Kingdom, Ireland, the Netherlands, etc.)
It will vary according to where you live:- In zones 9 to 10 (Italy, Spain, Greece, etc.), flowering will occur about 2 to 4 weeks earlier.
- In zones 6 to 7 (Germany, Poland, Slovenia, and lower mountainous regions), flowering will be delayed by 2 to 3 weeks.
- In zone 5 (Central Europe, Scandinavia), blooming will be delayed by 3 to 5 weeks.
In temperate climates, pruning of spring-flowering shrubs (forsythia, spireas, etc.) should be done just after flowering.
Pruning of summer-flowering shrubs (Indian Lilac, Perovskia, etc.) can be done in winter or spring.
In cold regions as well as with frost-sensitive plants, avoid pruning too early when severe frosts may still occur.
The planting period indicated on our website applies to countries and regions located in USDA zone 8 (France, United Kingdom, Ireland, Netherlands).
It will vary according to where you live:
- In Mediterranean zones (Marseille, Madrid, Milan, etc.), autumn and winter are the best planting periods.
- In continental zones (Strasbourg, Munich, Vienna, etc.), delay planting by 2 to 3 weeks in spring and bring it forward by 2 to 4 weeks in autumn.
- In mountainous regions (the Alps, Pyrenees, Carpathians, etc.), it is best to plant in late spring (May-June) or late summer (August-September).
The harvesting period indicated on our website applies to countries and regions in USDA zone 8 (France, England, Ireland, the Netherlands).
In colder areas (Scandinavia, Poland, Austria...) fruit and vegetable harvests are likely to be delayed by 3-4 weeks.
In warmer areas (Italy, Spain, Greece, etc.), harvesting will probably take place earlier, depending on weather conditions.
The sowing periods indicated on our website apply to countries and regions within USDA Zone 8 (France, UK, Ireland, Netherlands).
In colder areas (Scandinavia, Poland, Austria...), delay any outdoor sowing by 3-4 weeks, or sow under glass.
In warmer climes (Italy, Spain, Greece, etc.), bring outdoor sowing forward by a few weeks.
