Description

Centaurea ruthenica is a mountainous species, forming a dense clump of elongated leaves carried by flexible stems. In summer, it is topped with creamy-white globular flowers, with very fine petals. It can grow very tall (over 1m (3ft)) in rich soil. However, when planted in rocky and poor soil, it forms a dense bush about 50 to 70cm (20 to 28in) tall and wide.

A good species for a large rockery, a scree garden, or in perennial beds in sandy soil.

Most of the species are found in a wide area of the Mediterranean. They all prefer light, even poor and limestone, soil, as well as full sun. Depending on their size or their tolerance to moist soil, they will find their place in rock gardens or perennial beds. The proposed varieties are all perennials and have a good longevity.
