Description

Coreopsis rosea 'Sweet Dreams', rhizomatous perennial with light and airy foliage, forms a bushy shrub, spreading rapidly to create a magnificent ground cover. Throughout summer and into autumn, it produces a profusion of cream-white heads with dark raspberry-red centres, gradually becoming entirely raspberry pink over time. Truly stunning!

Coreopsis rosea 'Sweet Dreams' grows 45 cm (18in) tall with a spread of 60 cm (24in). It forms a dense, bushy shrub. Its delicate, fern-like foliage is finely cut and light, providing an airy and decorative appearance. Extremely floriferous, it continuously produces beautiful large bicolour heads from June to September, cream-white with dark raspberry-red centres. As the season progresses, the raspberry pink colour develops more prominently and the cream-white almost disappears. Under optimal growing conditions, this Coreopsis will spread through its rhizomes to create a large, dense, and colourful ground cover.

This vigorous, hardy, and very easy variety thrives in full sun, in fertile, well-drained to moist soil. It will be a beautiful addition to borders, flower beds, mixed borders, and rock gardens, thanks to its long and abundant white and raspberry flowering. It will be the perfect companion for perennial plants, shrub roses, and ornamental grasses. It can be paired with shrubby salvias, paniculate phlox, gauras, asters, and knautias. It will also look stunning when planted in pots on the patio, where the spectacle of its flowering will be unmatched! Its flowers will make splendid bouquets with changing colours.

Planting and care

The 'Sweet Dreams' Pink Coreopsis is a hardy plant that can tolerate limestone and thrives in sunny locations. It can grow in soils that are more or less fertile, as long as they are well-drained, especially in winter. However, it does not tolerate stagnant water, so it is essential to avoid poorly drained, clayey, and heavy soils. If you have such soil, you can add sand and gravel to lighten it. This Coreopsis is effortless to cultivate and requires very little maintenance. It spreads through rootstocks, so you can divide it every 2-3 years to rejuvenate the shrub and prevent it from spreading too much.
