A neck plant that I have ordered several times to add more. Thanks to Denis Laroche for his advice. I just tested the packaging without plastic and I do recommend it indeed. It is more environmentally friendly but also more effective for the protection of young plants!

Description

The Delosperma 'Wheels of Wonder Hot Pink' is a remarkable new hybrid delosperma known for its large, vibrant flowers, with a hot pink color, around a beautiful almost red eye and a yellow heart. This perennial forms beautiful mats of small succulent leaves and blooms from June to October, even in dry and poor soil. It should be planted in a very sunny location, above walls, in rockeries, or for terrace decoration. If necessary, it can be brought indoors during winter.

This Delosperma is a variety from Japan, selected at the Innovert 2014 competition at the Salon du végétal. Delosperma, belonging to the family of aizoaceae and cousins of mesembryanthemum, are perennials native to South Africa, East Africa, and Madagascar, which are perfectly suited to hot and dry climates. They can be planted between stones, on paving slabs, or on a dry slope, as long as they find some soil. However, if your region experiences freezing temperatures close to -10°C (14°F), place it in a pot or container that can be brought indoors during winter.

This Wheels of Wonder 'Hot Pink' Purslane is part of a new series of plants offering flowers twice as large as the typical variety, in a range of 6 vibrant and radiant colors. It has creeping, ramified stems that easily take root, colonising space to a width of up to 1m (3ft) under good conditions. They bear light green, cylindrical, succulent leaves. These leaves are sessile, very fleshy, warty, and measure about 3cm (1in). It forms a small clump 10 to 15cm (4 to 6in) tall, covered with beautiful flowers grouped in cymes, in a mix of orange and gold. Each flower has a corolla of thin ligules colored bright pink, painted with a carmine halo surrounding a yellow eye, with the flower centered on a small white and yellow heart. The flowering period extends over a long period, bringing vibrant colors to neglected areas.

The Delosperma 'Wheels of Wonder Hot Pink' is a perfect rockery plant. It therefore thrives in the company of Sedums, Dianthus, and Wall Bellflowers. However, it will also be perfect at the feet of Stachys and Valerian, with which it shares the same requirements: sun and dry soil. Planters composed of different varieties from the 'Wheels of Wonder' series will create a very colorful and easy-to-maintain carpet for a very long period.

Planting and care

The Delosperma settles in place in spring or autumn in a well-drained, dry, even rocky soil. It appreciates low walls, rock gardens, and well-exposed slopes. If your region is subject to frost below -10°C (14°F), place it in a pot or planter. This way you can shelter it during winter if necessary.

A sunny and warm location is essential for it to feel comfortable and bloom abundantly. Some watering during prolonged drought will be welcome. You can remove faded flowers to encourage their renewal. Dividing the clump may be necessary after a few years, depending on its location.

Make sure it doesn't get covered with dead leaves from nearby trees as they are likely to rot. Likewise, it doesn't appreciate having its feet in stagnant water.
