The young plants received are beautiful. The flowering - as can be seen on the Promesse de Fleurs website - should be superb. For now, I can't say anything more as it is a new planting this autumn.

Description

Echinacea 'Coupe Soleil' is a new introduction with surprising double cream-yellow flowers.

Closely related to Rudbeckia, Echinacea, also called purple coneflower or purple Rudbeckia, is native to the United States. A perennial and very hardy, it grows in meadows and therefore tolerates sun, competition from other plants, and relative drought.

In early summer, the flowers with pure white heads with green centres are single at first, then become double and transform into cream-yellow pompoms as they bloom. Carried by sturdy stems that reach 60cm (24in) in height, the flowers bloom continuously from June to early October. The abundant foliage is dark green and deciduous.

Easy to grow, Echinacea 'Coupe Soleil' appreciates sun, rich, fresh, and well-draining soil.

We particularly recommend it in a bed with peach and apricot shades, in the company of Carex comans 'Milk Chocolate', Achillea 'Terracotta', Heucherella 'Sweet Tea', and Bronze Fennel.

Planting and care

Echinacea 'Coupe Soleil' enjoys a sunny exposure preferably to have robust stems. It tolerates light shade. Plant it in a deep and well-drained soil. Nevertheless, it accepts any type of soil. It is a hardy plant that withstands drought, heat, and humidity. It even adapts when it is close to the coast or on a slope. Space the plants 40cm (16in) apart when planting. Echinaceas are hungry, so regularly add a good fertilizer for it to fully thrive. Trim the stems when the flowers have faded to promote the next flowering. Echinacea does not like to be disturbed and takes a while to establish itself.
