Geum chiloense Fireball

Geum 'Fireball' is an avens with semi-double flowers that bloom from June to August. Its red-orange flowers are ideal for creating multicoloured flower beds. Rather hardy and accommodating, this flowering perennial prefers sunny, but not scorching, exposures and also appreciates partial shade. It is an easy plant that requires little maintenance.

Avens are charming plants. Their slender silhouette is essential to complete a cottage or English garden. Their cup-shaped flowers are either single or double, but always light thanks to their delicate petals and their stamen-filled centre. They sway in the wind at the end of a slender stem that emerges from a basal clump, composed of green, pinnate, dentate, and slightly villous leaves. This airy habit allows them to be nestled among their summer companions in flower beds. However, they like to have a bit of space so do not overcrowd them. They thrive in relatively rich, but well-drained, moist soil. A little grooming is all it takes to remove faded flowers and they will happily rebloom.

Geum 'Fireball' has a flamboyant hue that catches the eye and enhances other colourful summer plants. It is wonderful in yellow-orange combinations, such as in our Catalan inspiration. But it also pairs well with the blue of lupins, delphiniums, and aconites. Its medium height (50 to 70cm (20 to 28in)) allows it to be placed at the edge or in the middle of a flower bed, depending on the size of your garden. Perfect for enlivening the summer season.
