Description

Geum coccineum 'Werner Arends' is an avens with double flowers that bloom from May to July. Rather hardy and accommodating, this floriferous perennial prefers sunny but not scorching exposures and also appreciates partial shade. It is an easy plant that requires little maintenance. Its vibrant orange colour brings light to flower beds.

Avens are charming plants. Their graceful silhouette is essential to complete a cottage or English garden. Their cup-shaped flowers are either single or double, but always light thanks to their delicate petals and their stamen-filled hearts. They sway in the wind at the end of a slender stem that emerges from a basal tuft, composed of green, pinnate, dentate, and slightly villous leaves. This airy habit allows them to be nestled among their summer companions in flower beds. However, do not overcrowd them, as they like to have some space. They thrive in moist, moderately rich, well-drained soil. A little pruning to remove faded flowers is all they need to happily bloom again.

Geum 'Werner Arends' has an intense colour. This flamboyant orange will work wonders in a multicoloured ensemble among yarrows, lupins, and black-eyed Susans. It will also cleverly contrast with the blue of delphiniums and speedwells. Its medium size (30 to 40cm (12 to 16in) in height) allows it to be placed at the edge or middle of a flower bed, depending on the size of your garden.
