Beautiful little plant, in principle the hellebores thrive at my place in the East! So see you in the spring!

Description

'Ginger Peach' Heuchera is a very recent variety of heuchera, with a unique personality: it quickly forms a large bushy evergreen foliage cushion, curiously tousled, which continuously changes colour, in a whirl of chartreuse green, peach pink, coral, and coppery pink veined with red. Its delicate floral stems bear numerous spikes of tiny white flowers in summer. Undemanding, robust, and vigorous, this perennial is ideal for bordering paths or flower beds, or even for potted plants on the terrace or balcony.

'Ginger Peach' Heuchera belongs to the Saxifragaceae family. This American hybrid is a descendant of the famous 'Marmalade', itself a hybrid of the Heuchera micrantha, native to rocky slopes and cliffs in the western United States. It will reach approximately 25cm (10in) in height for the foliage and 60cm (24in) in width, forming a large spreading clump. The foliage is the major asset of this plant: deeply lobed, highly undulated, and slightly crisped, its leaves change colour depending on their ripeness, throughout the seasons and temperatures. In spring, the young leaves are a chartreuse green. They gradually turn peach, then coral pink. In summer, the dominant colour is coppery pink. The flowering, light and airy, starts in June and continues until August. These long spikes adorned with tiny white flowers, dancing in the wind, give a blurred effect to this most romantic flowering. It is this movement that is difficult to capture on canvas that has earned heucheras the nickname of "the painter's despair," which they share with certain saxifrages. The foliage is decorative almost all year round; it will persist if the winter is mild.

'Ginger Peach' Heuchera can be planted directly in the ground in a flower bed, along a path, in a shady and cool rock garden, or in a pot. When planted in a flower bed, this heuchera brings dynamism and colour to the garden for 9 months out of 12. Pair it with hostas, small grasses (Stipa, Carex), and ferns for a wild effect. It also makes a good companion for bushes (small Japanese maples) and roses. Combine it with varieties in shades of pink or caramel, with the blue flowers of perennial geraniums, the only colour it really lacks, it will perfectly complement it. Consider using heucheras to fill your pots, containers, and window boxes along with geraniums, for example. As cut flowers, the delicate bell-shaped flowers of this plant bring a lot of lightness to bouquets.

Heucheras with trembling stems and tiny bells were very fashionable in the 19th century in gardens all over Europe.

Planting and care

Easy to maintain, the 'Ginger Peach' heuchera thrives in all moist but well-drained soils, in partial shade. However, it can tolerate sunny conditions outside of the hottest hours. It does not grow well in Mediterranean areas which are too dry and hot in summer. You should plant it in loose soil that is rich in humus, and consider using mulch. Water it during dry weather, especially in summer. It prefers well-drained soil with rocks in and above the ground. Sandy and poor soils should be avoided. Also, avoid planting it near overly vigorous perennials. Heucheras have rather shallow roots, so you should plant them slightly deeper than the crown (the point where the leaves originate). After a few years of growth or when dividing them, you should replant them slightly deeper, making sure to remove any woody parts.
