Description
The collection consists of:
- x1 Purple Toadflax: the botanical species with light purple flowers.
- x1 Purple Toadflax 'Alba': beautiful form with pure white flowers.
Toadflax is an herbaceous perennial plant that can reach 80cm (32in) in height. Its root system occupies 30 to 40cm (12 to 16in) of the soil, so take this into account when planting. This plant forms a clump of upright leafy stems, with a slightly flared and airy habit. Its glaucous-colored leaves are lanceolate. Its flexible stems bear small wolf-shaped flowers grouped in clusters that are 15 to 20cm (6 to 8in) long.
These Toadflaxes are preferably planted in spring, in full sun, in light, well-drained soil, moist to dry in summer, even limestone soil. Sandy, limestone, or slightly rocky soil is even appreciated. In clayey and humid soils, they survive difficultly in winter and behave like biennials.
Purple Toadflax brings height and lightness to flower and low bush beds. This plant also adds a lot of charm to walls and rockeries. It pairs well with herbaceous clematis as well as bush roses. It can also be planted among lavenders, catmints, Gauras, Caryopteris, and other bushy salvias in a very airy scene that will remain interesting late into the season. In a flower bed with the appearance of a meadow, associate it with cornflowers, cosmos, poppies, snapdragons, and sainfoin.

Planting and care
Linaria purpurea are ideally planted in full sun, in ordinary soil, but light and well-drained. This hardy perennial dreads clayey and waterlogged soils in winter, combined with severe frosts. It naturalizes easily (it self-seeds) and requires little maintenance. When planting, space the plants 30 to 40cm (12 to 16in) apart. Prune Linaria after each wave of flowers, it will bloom from June to September. Linaria tolerates relatively dry soils in summer and can completely do without watering once well established, except in our Mediterranean regions where some water inputs will be welcome in summer.
