The young plants received are of good quality: not at all damaged by the journey, healthy, and with beautiful foliage. This type of young plant only lives for about 3 years, but they are worth renewing after this period. They are magnificent for creating a cottage garden or a romantic English garden.

Description

The Lychnis coronaria 'Gardener's World', commonly known as the Double Garden Campions, is a ramified perennial plant with a bushy habit, entirely covered in fine hairs, and semi-evergreen foliage with a silvery-gray color. It bears numerous small double flowers, in a vibrant pink color, turbinate like little round roses, throughout the summer. Adapted to rocky soils and difficult conditions, and easily self-seeding, this plant is the queen of cottage gardens.

The Lychnis coronaria Gardener's World is a horticultural variety of the Lychnis coronaria, native to southern Europe and western Asia. It is a tomentose-white perennial plant, with a woody stump, forming rosettes at the base from which arise sturdy, 40-80 cm (16-32in) tall, simple or dichotomous-branching stems. The plant quickly forms a 45 cm (18in) wide clump. The flowering takes place from June to September, in the form of clusters of 4 cm (2in) wide double flowers, in a bright magenta-pink color, with long peduncles. Its leaves are ovate-oblong, silvery-gray, semi-evergreen, and tomentose.

Plant the Double Garden Campions in groups, as a single plant can have a somewhat awkward appearance. A beautiful combination can be achieved with the Lychnis coronaria Alba variety, with the harmonious contrast between the fresh and vibrant magenta-pink of its flowers, the purity of the white flowers, and the silvery velvet of the foliage of both plants. The Lychnis elegantly accompany old or English roses and aromatic plants such as Common Sage, thyme, lavender, and rosemary, which require the same growing conditions.

Planting and care

Evergreen and hardy down to -15°C (5°F) (Zone 4 to 8), Lychnis coronaria Gardener's Worlde thrives in sunny or semi-shaded locations. This plant is naturally found in uncultivated and rocky lands. Plant it in a porous, dry to moist but well-drained, neutral to slightly alkaline soil, from February to April in the north and from September to November in the southern regions. In regions with harsh winters, it can be potted in autumn to protect it from frost. This lychnis tolerates drought well, requires little care and watering. Prune it after flowering to remove dry parts, promote new growth and a second flowering. Note that the seeds produce plants whose flowering may not necessarily be double and bright pink.
