It's just a stem that still looks quite sturdy.

Description

Close in foliage to the white nettle, of which it is a close relative, Melittis melissophyllum gets its name from its melliferous properties.

It is not to be confused with lemon balm. This variety is distinguished by its sumptuous white flowers dotted with a pink lip. This robust plant tolerates all types of soil, even limestone, and prefers semi-shaded areas of the garden.

In summer, the plant produces some seeds, allowing it to naturalise in gardens without being invasive. It grows in dry shade, even under conifers.

Accompanied by Pulmonaria hybrid 'Majesty', Hosta hybrid 'Big Daddy', and perennial Geranium 'Mourning Widow', Melittis melissophyllum will bring a touch of originality to spring borders.
