Description

Nepeta sibirica Souvenir d'André Chaudron forms a bush adorned with magnificent electric blue, tubular flowers, similar to a penstemon, but hardier.

This pretty perennial plant, native to Siberia, forms an upright tuft which is more compact than the species, adorned with vigorous stems carrying lanceolate leaves. The tubular, vivid blue-violet flowers, are larger and more abundant than usual, from May onwards.
Nepeta 'Souvenir d'André Chaudron' is hardy and vigorous and thrives in sunny locations in well-drained, rich, moist soil. It is one of the few that tolerates heavy soils. Plant it alongside campanulas, astrantias, and peonies, in an English-style mixed border or a romantic garden.

Planting and care

Nepeta sibirica 'Souvenir d'André Chaudron' has better resistance to cool and clayey soils than the species, but it is more sensitive to stagnant moisture, especially in winter. You will enjoy a longer flowering period if you cut back the clumps just after the first flowering. Although recommended for light soils, it still grows very well in clayey soil, in full sun, always well-drained in winter.
