Rodgersia podophylla

The Rodgersia podophylla forms a running rhizome stump which, under good conditions, can form beautiful colonies. This beautiful undergrowth perennial has deciduous, palmate leaves with 5 lobed leaflets that are roughly toothed at the end. They are initially bronze in color, then become dark green with bronze highlights, and finally take on absolutely stunning autumn colors, such as purple, red or orange. The inflorescences, which are finer and less numerous than in other species, are pure white and are borne on slender stems. Easy to grow, Rodgersia podophylla thrives in partial shade, in any moist and humus-bearing soil. It looks superb when planted alongside astilbes and hostas.
