Planting and care

Plant Scabiosa in a sunny spot in colder regions, or slightly shaded in hotter ones. They prefer slightly alkaline, well-drained soils. Water regularly but not excessively. Preventive treatment for powdery mildew, using Bordeaux mixture, is useful. Scabiosa sometimes tends to decline after 2 or 3 seasons. To preserve them, enrich the soil with organic fertiliser and ensure they don't suffer from excessive moisture in winter by lightening the substrate with sand.
