Description

Trollius cultorum Cheddar forms a clump of very finely cut foliage from which emerge flowers arranged in large, double, globose buds of a very soft pale yellow colour.

This is a quite rare colour among Trollius and will be perfectly highlighted alongside perennial geraniums with blue flowers.

A hybrid resulting from the cross-breeding of Trollius europaeus, T. asiaticus, and T. chinensis, Trollius Cheddar possesses the same qualities as its parents, great robustness, flowers of good size, and long flowering duration.

Plant Trollius cultorum Cheddar in partial shade or in the sun in a rich, moist, and heavy soil, alongside perennial geraniums, hostas, Japanese irises, and astilbes.

Planting and care

Trollius cultorum Cheddar is one of those majestic globeflowers that, like wild buttercups, love to have their feet in the wet and their heads in the sun. It is in the marshy area that separates water from land that they thrive happily. However, they will also grow in any good garden soil that is not too dry, in the sun or partial shade. Pruning the clumps after flowering sometimes encourages a second flowering later in the season, but this is not always guaranteed.
