Buckets received in very good condition. Immediately planted, the first young plants appeared after three days and since then, they continue to bloom on the stem. I keep the soil moist by watering every 3-4 days.

Description

Veronica gentianoides 'Barbara Sherwood' boasts basal leaves, similar to those of gentian. They form leafy rosettes close to the ground. In May or June, this green carpet is topped with numerous rigid stems, 60cm (24in) tall. They bear clusters of sky-blue flowers streaked with dark blue in the throat.

'Barbara Sherwood' likes sunny spots and tolerates partial shade. It thrives in gravelly or even clayey soil. However, it dislikes heavy waterlogged soils.

It is very easy to grow. It is suitable both as a standalone plant and in borders, combined with Allium unifolium, Ajuga reptans, or Heuchera 'Silver Scrolls'.

Planting and care

Veronica gentianoides 'Barbara Sherwood' is an easy-to-grow plant requiring very little maintenance. It has excellent hardiness, tolerating temperatures down to -15°C (5°F) and beyond. Plant in spring or autumn, in a sunny location. It will tolerate a slightly shaded spot. Not very demanding and tolerant of limestone, it adapts to all types of not-too-dry to moist soil, as long as it is well-drained. Water if necessary, especially in the first few years, as it does not appreciate prolonged drought. Regularly remove the faded stems at ground level to encourage the emergence of new flower spikes and a second flowering in autumn. If the clumps have become too large, divide the stumps in spring or autumn. In late winter, before the vegetation resumes, clean the clump by removing the dry foliage.
