Description

The 'Boheme' climbing rose adds life with its large double roses, combining an unprecedented colour and pleasant fragrance.  Vigorous and highly floriferous from June to October, it exhibits excellent natural resistance to diseases and surprising roses with amber-yellow petals edged with red to pink. They tirelessly bloom in clusters, perfectly highlighted by their beautifully dark green leaves, which remain attractive throughout the season. This climbing rose is vibrant, easy to grow, versatile, and can also be trained as a large bush according to each gardener's preferences.

The 'Boheme' rose 'Nirpmjp' is a new introduction by NIRP International. It was awarded the Special Prize Une Rose pour Alice in Rome in 2018. This horticultural hybrid belongs to the family of large-flowered roses and floribundas, with flowers gathered in clusters. It has rapid growth, a regular habit, develops long woody climbing stems, erect, green and more or less adorned with sharp reddish prickles, flexible enough to be trained. This variety reaches a height of 2.75 m (9ft) to 3 m (10ft) with a spread of 1 m (3ft) when trained. Its stems bear glossy and leathery foliage divided into toothed leaflets, dark green. The roses of 'Boheme'12 cm (5in) wide, take the form of fairly deep, double, informal cups composed of 34 to 40 petals. They are solitary or grouped in small clusters of 3 to 7 buds. The flowering period is from May to June to October. Their colour evolves throughout the day: from amber yellow edged with cherry red when they open, they gradually fade to cream yellow edged with pink. Their fragrance is light and pleasant. The deciduous foliage falls in autumn.

'Boheme' is a climbing rose with warm tones, which can also be planted for its robustness and floribundance. Like other climbing roses, it is incomparable for adorning a gate, fences, and small pergolas, but it can also be used as a semi-weeping bush by regularly pruning it to help it branch out and limit its height. In this use, it can accompany white or purple lilacs, buddleias, etc. Its red flowering pairs well with the 'Prince Charles' clematis, blue or Miss Bateman, with white flowers. It is an ideal companion for dead trees as it can revive them, or sheds to which it brings great charm. Whether trained on an arch or installed on an ugly fence, it can dress up any setting without demanding much effort from the one who planted it.

Planting and care

The Bohemian climbing rose thrives in sunny locations but dislikes hot and confined exposures, as they can make it more susceptible to powdery mildew. It's best to avoid training it against a south or west wall. Although it doesn't appreciate excessive lime, it can tolerate it. It prefers deep, fertile, and relatively fresh soils that allow it to develop and fully flower throughout the season. However, in very dry and hot summers, flowering may diminish and resume in autumn.

This rose can adapt to any garden if the soil is well-prepared and reasonably rich. To plant it, work the soil well by breaking it up and placing an amendment, such as blood, fish, and bone, at the bottom of the planting hole. Water generously after planting to eliminate any air pockets. For the first few weeks, water regularly to facilitate root growth, especially during the first two dry and hot summers. Pruning this rose is only necessary to limit its vigour. If its spread bothers you, feel free to reduce its branches.

Care

Pruning instructions Repeat flowering roses should be pruned at the end of winter. Shorten them if their spread bothers you, but don't force yourself to cut them back too much, as this will damage the flowering. On the other hand, don't hesitate to aerate the branches by removing dead wood and unsightly branches. Remove spent flowers as the summer progresses, to encourage even more abundant flowering.
Pruning Pruning recommended once a year
Pruning time March to April
Soil moisture Moist soil
Disease resistance Very good
Overwinter Can be left in the ground
