Rosa 'Music Hall' - Shrub Rose

The 'Music Hall' Rose (Tan 97159) is a modern hybrid tea rose from the 'Les Années Folles' series developed by German rose breeder Tantau. All varieties are repeat-flowering and highly floriferous, exuding a charm reminiscent of the carefree post-war era. This particular variety bears double old-fashioned roses in an amber-pink colour with a delightful fruity fragrance that hints at peach and mango. They bloom on a vigorous and healthy bush that will find a place in gardens of all sizes.

The 'Music Hall' Rose, bred by Tantau and introduced in 2008, was awarded in Baden, Austria the same year. This hybrid tea rose is also classified as a Floribunda, with its flowers grouped in corymbs or small clusters.

The plant forms an upright, ramified bush with vigorous and rapid growth. It will reach approximately 70-80 cm (28-32in) in height, with a spread of 60 cm (24in). From May-June until late in the season, solitary or clustered roses bloom on foliage composed of toothed leaflets in a bright light green shade. They measure 7 to 8 cm (3in) in diameter and consist of 100 to 110 petals. They open in the manner of old-fashioned roses in quarters. The centre of the flower is a warm orange-pink colour, while the outer petals are lighter. This rose has excellent disease resistance. This deciduous, hardy shrub loses its leaves in autumn. It performs best when planted in rich, deep soil that remains cool in summer.

This modern 'Music Hall' rose, with its fruity fragrance and variegated flowers, will dress up the garden in festive attire until the first frosts. Place it, for example, at the front of a shrub border, in groups of 3 to 5 plants, or as a standout specimen in a small, well-tended garden. Consider pairing it with a white Berry of Angels rose or with small blue, mauve, or white flowers that will complement it without overshadowing it. Perennial geraniums, catmints, campanulas (lactiflora, rapunculoides), perennial salvias, and foxgloves are good companions for roses. Its long-lasting flowers are perfect for creating charming bouquets to fill the house with fragrance.
