Like the 2 Fargesia winter joy, I have just received them, in good health, and I am eagerly looking forward to seeing them grow.

Description

Fargesia murielae 'Jumbo' forms a compact clump, spreading upwards. It is a non-running species. This bush grows quickly. Its sturdy, upright canes emerge green, turning yellow as they mature. The plant measures 2 m to 3 m (6.6 ft to 9.8 ft) in height.

The foliage on the stems is evergreen. Abundant, the leaves, 6 cm to 15 cm (2.4 in to 5.9 in) long, are thin but wider than the typical species. They are lanceolate and tapering at their tip. They turn green then orange with age.

Originally from central China, it is one of the hardiest bamboos. It has survived in countries in Eastern Europe with harsh winters. It is most often used as a windbreak, noise screen or as a free or trimmed hedge. Cultivated in isolated clumps or in beds, you can place it in a pot. It is a highly appreciated bush in contemporary gardens.

Planting and care

Fargesia murielae 'Jumbo' appreciates partial shade even though it tolerates the sun. However, avoid excessively drying exposures as it fears intense sun and drought. Reserve a shady spot for it, especially in warm regions. Plant this bamboo in rich, moist, rather heavy soil that retains water well. Plant it in spring or autumn. In a pot, monitor watering, especially when the foliage is very abundant. Slugs can devour young shoots.
