Description

Buddleia davidii 'Moonshine' is a modestly-sized bush that stands out for its spring foliage of dark yellow, turning lime green in summer. This hardy shrub also has abundant, charming, deep pink, fragrant flowers in summer that attract butterflies. It is very decorative and doesn't take up much space, it will easily finds a place in a small flowerbed or a pot on the terrace.

Buddleia davidii 'Moonshine' 'Buddma' is a recent horticultural creation. This variety was discovered in Ederveen, Netherlands, by Pieter van Manen in 2006. It is a well-branched bush with fairly rapid growth, reaching a size of about 1.50 m in all directions. This Buddleia develops deciduous leaves that are opposite on the branches and have an oval shape, measuring between 8 and 12 cm long. They are dark yellow when they appear in spring, over time they become slightly greener but remain much lighter compared to those of classic varieties. The particularly abundant flowering takes place from July to September in the form of upright spike-like, nectar-rich flowers measuring 15 to 20 cm in length, with a pleasant honey-like scent that attracts many butterflies. Their colour is a mix of deep pink and rosy violet.

Buddleia davidii 'Moonshine' can be used in shrub beds, low hedges, or pots. It pairs well with white-flowered potentillas such as 'Abbotswood' or 'White Lady'. You can also plant Cerastium or Sedum acre 'Yellow Queen' in front of it.
