The young plant was very small, it didn't flower this year, but it has established itself well and is very pretty.

Description

The Forsythia (x) intermedia 'Spectabilis' is an ornamental bush, one of the first to bloom after winter. It bears numerous small bell-shaped flowers in a bright yellow colour in March-April. They appear before the leaves, and this variety is one of the most floriferous, with its branches literally covered in flowers. This density offers a true yellow lantern in your garden!

A fast-growing bush, the 'Spectabilis' Forsythia can reach a height of 2.5m at maturity. It is a very hardy plant that originates from China and Japan.

Nicknamed the Paris Mimosa, the Forsythia can be grown both individually or grouped in flower beds, including alongside Abelia grandiflora, Smokebush, or with Mahonia or Mock Orange. It can be used as a flowering hedge as it branches quite low. You can also train it against a wall.

Its flowers can be cut. In early December cut a branch or two and put them in a vase, they will bloom in time for Christmas. The Forsythia (x) intermedia is a hybrid between the Forsythia suspensa and the Forsythia viridissima.

For the first 3 years a simple clean of any dead, thin or misplaced branches will suffice. Prune every 2 years after flowering to promote future flowerings.
