Excellent quality, planted the naked root in January and it's leafing out and about to flower. Really great pruning and shape too.

Description

Malus 'Red Sentinel' is an ornamental crab apple tree with white flowers followed in late summer by beautiful bright red fruits, about the size of a cherry.

A medium-sized bush, 'Red Sentinel' has a lovely rounded habit, reaching a height of 4 m to 5 m (13.1 ft to 16.4 ft). It maintains a balanced shape without the need for pruning.

The flowering starts with pink buds followed by pure white flowers arranged in numerous small clusters from April onwards. Its dark green leaves are deciduous, ovate and dentate. In autumn, the foliage turns bright red.

In autumn, the bush produces bright red, cherry-sized miniature apples, 3 cm (1.2 in) in diameter. These fruits are highly appreciated by birds and remain attached to the bush for half of the winter.

Malus 'Red Sentinel' is a very good pollinator for early-flowering fruit trees. It will thrive in all types of soil, preferably fertile and rich, well-drained, with a sunny exposure.

This cultivar requires little maintenance, and the variety is highly resistant to diseases.
