Description

Philadelphus 'Virginal', commonly known as Mock Orange, is a bush with an open habit, dark green foliage and pure white flowers that bloom from June to July with a fragrant, orange blossom scent

Philadelphus 'Virginal' is a very vigorous bush, reaching a height of 3.5 metres (11 feet) and a width of 2.5 metres (8 feet). Its numerous, 3 to 5 centimetres (1.2 - 2 inches) single or double flowers bloom from May to July. They develop in light clusters of 5 to 9 flowers and are full of charm. They release a strong fragrance that perfumes the garden with the scent of orange blossom in spring. Its deciduous leaves are dark green and slightly dentate, measuring from 4 to 10 centimetres (1.6 - 3.9 inches) long, and are characterized by their ovate shape.

Hardy down to -15°C (5°F), Philadelphus 'Virginal' thrives in sunny or semi-shady locations. Plant it from September to February in any soil, poor or even chalky. Add a fertilizer rich in magnesium after flowering. Its flowering begins in May - June. After flowering, prune older branches and thin out the centre of the bush from July to August. Reduce branches that have produced flowers to stimulate the next flowering. When planting, mix your soil with compost at 50%, then water abundantly 1 to 2 times a week to facilitate establishment.
