Staphylea colchica

Staphylea colchica is a fast-growing bush. In spring, it produces a lovely white flowering with a delicate scent. In autumn, the flowers are followed by fruits as curious as they are decorative.

The flowers of the mock pistachio are beautiful pure white bell-shaped flowers grouped in clusters that bloom from May to June, and transform into small trilobed white-green pouches. These little bags are filled with air that crack under finger pressure and will ensure a touch of originality to your garden. The fruits eventually turn brown but remain on the bush even longer than its leaves.

The Colchis, from where this Staphylea originates, is a region of the Caucasus. Plants from this region of the world are usually well adapted to our gardens because they are perfectly hardy and even tolerate limestone soils. To enjoy it both in a mass planting and as a standalone specimen, you just need to maintain an elegant habit by performing a very light annual pruning.
