Description

The Sweet Desire Narcissus has a very double corolla. The flower resembles a small pompon of yellow and white petals. The straight stems of narcissus make them excellent cut flowers.

We love narcissus because their flowering announces the arrival of spring and sunny days. Narcissus are perennial and very hardy, you can count on their presence from one year to another without any problems. Plant them wherever you like, in lawns, rockeries, flower beds, pots and planters.

Narcissus is toxic, it is best to wash your hands after picking or handling it. The flower doesn't tolerate rain well, but new flowers will be produced over a long period.

A little history: Narcissus, according to a Greek legend, was a young man condemned by the gods to love only himself. When he saw his reflection in a fountain, he became lost in contemplating his image and ended up drowning. He transformed into a flower.

Planting and care

Plant Narcissus Sweet Desire in full sun or partial shade. They are very easy to grow and can tolerate the shade of a woodland or a sunny flower bed in moist but well-drained soils. Plant them in autumn, 15 cm (6in) deep and 10 cm (4in) apart in a minimum of 5 bulbs, in a uniform colour or mixed. To plant them in the lawn: lift a patch of turf, dig and loosen the soil to a depth of at least 20 cm (8in) (the height of a spade), place your bulbs, cover them with soil and replace the turf. Choose a spot where you won't mow, as you must let the narcissus leaves wither before cutting them. This is when the bulb replenishes itself and prepares the flowers for the following year. However, remember to cut the flowers as soon as they have faded to prevent seed formation which would unnecessarily exhaust the bulb. Cut the leaves when they have turned yellow and apply fertiliser at that time, not before. Maintain regular watering during the growing season and allow the soil to dry out once the foliage is mature.
