Narcissus Nir

Narcissus Nir is a bulbous plant. In spring it produces beautiful pure white flowers. The outer petals are curved while the crown is very small. They are perched in groups on long stems and have a sweet fragrance. The green, deciduous leaves are sword-shaped with entire edges.

Daffodils are increasingly appreciated today because they are synonymous with spring. Nir reaches a height of 30 to 40 cm (12 to 16in) at maturity. Originally from the Mediterranean basin, this narcissus can be planted in flower beds, lawns, rockeries and pots. Its flowers can be put in a vase, where it is best not to mix them with other flowers.

Daffodils are toxic and do not tolerate bad weather such as rain, which damages the flower. Nevertheless, it is one of the most resistant autumn bulbs, and a faithful plant that comes back every year. Narcissus is part of a Greek legend according to which a handsome young man rejected the love of the nymph Echo. As punishment, the gods made him love nothing more than his own image. When he perched above a fountain to drink, Narcissus saw his reflection and stayed in contemplation in front of it until he fell in and drowned, whereupon he transformed into a flower.
