Tulipa 'New Design' (Triumph)

The 'New Design' Tulip is a delightful and refined variety that has a spicy touch. This wide and pearly corolla tulip displays pale pink petals washed with ivory white and primrose yellow, brushed with pink on the edges, revealing the inside of the flower, which is a deeper shade of pink. The foliage resembles that of a hosta, with grey-green leaves edged in white cream and pink. This beauty takes a little longer to bloom, flowering in the middle of the tulip season, just a little late.

The 'New Design' Tulip belongs to the Liliaceae family. Originally horticultural, it is currently classified in the 'Triumph' group, which is characterized by narrow cup-shaped flowers. Perched on sturdy stems, 45cm (18in) tall, above the marbled and broadly lanceolate leaves, the elegant flowers, with rounded cups and thick substance, display different shades of pink and white. They open wider as they ripen, revealing the inner face of their six "petals" (more precisely tepals), which are vivid pink with a white base. They are carried by sturdy stems, 45cm (18in) tall, and are resistant to bad weather. The foliage of this variety, variegated with white cream and pink, is decorative even outside of the flowering season, further accentuating its uniqueness.

The 'New Design' Triumph tulip, "invented" in the Netherlands in 1974, finds its place in large flowerbeds. Its freshness allows for combinations with tulips in white or red tones, creating a beautiful contrast. This also maximizes the duration of the flowerbeds' blooming. Combine it with daffodils, jonquils, hyacinths, Corsican hellebores, and Euphorbias, and you will create surprising scenes. It can also be planted in borders, rockeries, flower beds, as well as in pots and planters. This tulip enhances balconies and terraces very well. It pairs perfectly with tall perennials and is ideal for creating elegant bouquets. In a vase, use very little water, just enough to cover the bottom! Additionally, if your tulips open too quickly, you can add two to three ice cubes to the vase every day.
