Tulipa Request - Triumph Tulip

The Tulip Triumph 'Request' is a hybrid with irresistible, slender, elongated flowers with pointed petals, of a sublime coppery orange punctuated with salmon pink. They are suspended at the end of sturdy stems above broad lanceolate leaves. Stunning in a flower border or mass planting, with purple flowers to enhance the rich coppery hue of 'Request'. Excellent for cutting.

The Tulip Triumph 'Request' belongs to the Liliaceae family. Of horticultural origin, introduced to the market in 2007, it is currently classified in the group of "Triumph" tulips, resulting from a crossbreeding between "early single" tulips and "Darwin" tulips. However, it can also be classified in the horticultural category of "Rembrandt" tulips, division 9. Their main characteristic is to have variously variegated bicoloured flowers. In the past, these tulips were ordinary plants affected by a virus spread by the green peach aphid. It was the virus that was responsible for the variegation of the flowers. Nowadays, Rembrandt tulips are the result of crossbreeding and selection. The variety 'Request' develops a sturdy flower stem of about 50 cm in height. Its fully open flower measures 10 cm in diameter. It usually blooms in May, towards the end of the tulip season. The foliage emerges from the ground in spring. It consists of large lanceolate, 10 to 35 cm long leaves, with a glaucous green colour that turns yellow and then dries out a few weeks after flowering, when the bulb enters its dormant phase.

The 'Request' tulip finds a place in large plantings, borders, and containers before adorning vases. In the garden, it pairs well with simple flowers such as forget-me-nots, bluebells, grape hyacinths, white tulips... This also allows you to extend the flowering period as much as possible. Pair it with daffodils, lady's mantle, or even hellebores and euphorbias to create stunning compositions. To enhance the coppery hue of 'Request', pair it with violet-coloured flowers such as Tulip 'Queen of Night', Snake's Head Fritillary, or Plumosum Grape Hyacinth. When arranging them in a vase, use very little water, just a little at the bottom is enough! Furthermore, if your tulips open too quickly, you can add two to three ice cubes to the vase each day.
