Sunflower seed Mix - Helianthus annuus

Helianthus annuus, or Common Sunflower is a fast-growing annual plant with strong ramified stems that can reach up to 1.50m (5ft) in height and bear up to 20 heads; true bouquets of giant flowers! This collection brings together the seeds of 5 of the best varieties: 'Pastiche' with pastel yellow, red and cream tones; 'Velvet Queen' with mahogany red flowers; 'Taiyo' with large bright yellow flowers; 'Italian White' with cream white flowers; and 'Prado Yellow' with pollen-free yellow flowers.

The inflorescences resemble giant daisies with a diameter of 15 to 20cm (6 to 8in). Their brown centre is surrounded by a row of differently coloured petals depending on the varieties. The main stem branches out and bears a head at each end. The branches are long enough to be picked independently and create magnificent summer bouquets.
Note: Selected by professionals in cut flowers, the 'Prado Yellow' Sunflower does not produce pollen. It will therefore not stain furniture and clothes.

This magnificent flowering spreads from July to October. However, to have beautiful cut flowers, we recommend staggering your sowings to enjoy young flowers regularly.

To enjoy your Sunflower bouquets for longer, follow these tips:

• Cut the flowers in the morning just after they have opened. Use a knife that has been thoroughly cleaned beforehand.
• Remove the leaves starting from the bottom, leaving only 2 or 3 leaves below the flower.
• Change the water in the vase every day with fresh water.

In the garden, sow Sunflowers at the back of flower beds, where they will majestically dominate the other flowers.

Until just before flowering, the plant optimizes its growth by following the sun's path. This phenomenon, called heliotropism, has given rise to some of its common names: Heliotrope, Sunflower, Soleil des jardins....
