Sutera Scopia Gulliver Blue Sensation

The Bacopa 'Gulliver Blue Sensation' is a recent cultivar of Sutera cordata, which stands out for its dense and slightly trailing habit. This plant produces a multitude of particularly colourful flowers, with light blue-purple petals and a contrasting yellow centre. They cover its highly branched stems, forming a compact cushion of blooms with a spreading habit. Cultivated as an annual, this robust and irresistible variety blooms tirelessly from May to October, making it perfect for quickly filling hanging baskets and balcony planters.

Bacopas are perennial plants or frost-tender shrubs belonging to the scrophulariaceae family, native to South Africa. The selected variety Scopia® 'Gulliver Blue Sensation' develops slightly woody stems that spread all around the base, quickly forming a rounded and very bushy plant, measuring 15 cm (6in) in height and 35 cm (14in) in width. The stems are adorned with small green heart-shaped leaves, approximately 1.5 cm (1in) in size, with toothed edges. Throughout the summer, the stems are covered in numerous flowers of almost identical size, generously sprinkled along their length, originating from the axils of the leaves. The flowers of the 'Gulliver Blue Sensation' variety are fully open towards the sky. They have a tubular base and spread out into light blue-violet corollas, composed of five rounded lobes, surrounding a yellow centre.

Thanks to their silhouette, bacopas easily blend with all types of balcony plants. For example, they can be paired with taller plants such as dwarf roses, pennisetums, or geraniums, as well as double impatiens. They are equally effective when grouped together or used as ephemeral ground cover in flower beds. The Bacopa 'Gulliver Blue Sensation' is perfect for brightening up a windowsill or the base of a partially sun-exposed wall. It will complement pastel flowers and temper the vibrant colours of trailing surfinias and fuchsias.
