Description

The Philodendron Golden Violin is a variety named after the violin shape of its bright leaves with a golden sheen, turning greener with maturity. This climbing plant requires a support to grow. Sought after by indoor plant enthusiasts, this 'philo' will fit into any contemporary, exotic, or collection setting.

Belonging to the Araceae family, the Philodendron bipennifolium 'Aureum' Golden Violin originates from the Philodendron bipennifolium, native to southern Venezuela and northern to eastern Brazil in tropical rainforests, where it grows as a climbing plant on trees. It is a hemiepiphyte, meaning it can start its life as a ground-covering plant and later climb trees in its natural habitat. At maturity, this variety reaches a height of 1.20 m in all directions. The lower leaves of the plant have an oblong shape, similar to a heart, while the upper leaves take on a bipennate and lobed characteristic form with long, pointed tips. The young leaves emerge in lemon yellow or lime green, contrasting with the deeper green tones of older leaves. They can resemble a violin or a horse's head in different cases. They can grow up to 45 cm long. The Philodendron 'Golden Violin' is quite adaptable in its growing conditions.

Well positioned in a spacious living room or a bright conservatory, the Philodendron 'Golden Violin' draws attention with the size and beauty of its foliage. Pair it with plants that have similar needs, such as those from the Araceae family like the Alocasia zebrina or another Philodendron such as the Caramel Marble, with variegated cream leaves.

Location

Avoid exposing the Philodendron Golden Violin to direct sunlight to prevent leaf burns. Indoors, it prefers bright light without direct sun, but can tolerate more subdued light; it requires high humidity, in the order of 60 to 80%. You can grow the young plant on a thick sphagnum moss support, against which it anchors its roots and climbs. Its exotic appearance blends perfectly with contemporary or urban jungle styles, and its striking foliage makes it an attractive focal point.

Use a well-draining compost enriched with organic matter, a light mix with clay pebbles for good drainage
Apply a liquid fertiliser for houseplants every 4 to 6 weeks during the growth period (spring-summer).
