Perennial blue and red collection for a sunny spot - Salvia, Perovskia, Achillea

The perennial blue and red collection for sunny spots combines three plants with strong characters for a colourful and long-lasting garden. The trio ensures abundant flowering from late spring to autumn. These are robust perennial plants, resistant to cold and drought, offering diverse foliage and flowers: bicolour flowers for the sage, lavender blue for the perovskia, and intense red for the yarrow. They will bring texture and volume to a sunny bed or large border.

The collection includes 3 young plants:

1 Salvia microphylla ‘Hot Lips’, a shrubby sage reaching 60-70 cm in height, producing small red and white bicolour flowers. Its dark green, slightly aromatic foliage perfectly complements the vivacity of the flowering. This variety blooms from June to October and tolerates drought very well.

1 Perovskia atriplicifolia ‘Little Spire’, an upright shrubby perennial that can reach up to 80 cm in height. This plant is distinguished by its silvery foliage and lavender blue flower spikes from July to October. Its airy appearance adds a light touch to mixed borders.

1 Achillea millefolium ‘Red Velvet’, a robust perennial about 60 cm tall, offering a deep red flowering period from June to September. Its densely compact umbels and finely cut foliage make this variety an ideal ornamental plant for dry, sunny beds.

These perennial plants can be planted in spring or autumn, in well-drained soil and full sun. They adapt to dry conditions. Plant them in staggered rows to maximise their visual impact, spacing them 40-50 cm apart. This collection covers an area of about 1 m², forming a bright and elegant bed that can be easily maintained with little care. These plants withstand temperatures down to -15°C and can therefore remain in place throughout winter.

Combine the plants from this collection with other perennials in complementary shades like Gaura ‘Whirling Butterflies’, its white flowers forming a soft contrast with the yarrow's red. To enrich the colour palette, also plant three stems of Echinacea purpurea ‘Magnus’, adding a touch of dark pink. Agapanthus ‘Blue Triumphator’, planted in groups of five, will enhance the blue effect of the collection while highlighting the elegance of the perovskia. All these plants will cover approximately 3 m².
