I received very small young plants with a tiny leaf of 3 mm (0in). So I put them under a plastic cloche once planted to protect them from the 3-day ice storms and from slugs. Now I'm eagerly waiting for them to take root.

Description

Campanula lactiflora 'Loddon Anna' forms large bushes of pale pink-lilac flowers, reaching a height of 1 metre (3 feet).

The lactiflora campanulas are characterized by very tall stems of star-shaped flowers, gathered in large clusters. The Loddon Anna variety produces magnificent pale pink-lilac flowers in early summer. The light green foliage is arranged in whorls along the stems.

This campanula thrives in both sun and partial shade and prefers nutrient-rich soil. It should not lack moisture during the summer.

When the stems or leaves are cut, they secrete a white, milky latex, hence the name lactiflora.

Planting and care

Plant your campanula in a sunny location with rich and moist, deeply dug soil. Do not rely on the size of the plant in the pot staying the same: give it the space you would give to a small bush, as it can quickly spread! You can prune the stems after flowering to encourage the appearance of new flowers. Cut back your plant to 50 cm (20in) in early winter and remove faded flowers to prevent self-seeding. In windy conditions, it may be necessary to stake the plant. You can divide the clumps in autumn and spring. In pots, apply organic fertilizer at least once a year.
