More information

A small fleshy perennial succulent in the shape of a rosette, with thick pale to glaucous green leaves, covered with a white bloom that gives them a porcelain-like tone. In cold weather, the edges of the leaves turn bright pink. In spring, this Echeveria produces floral stems adorned with pink bells with a yellow throat. Over time, the plant develops runners at the end of which daughter rosettes form. Frost-tolerant, but water-efficient, it creates visually appealing potted arrangements that require minimal care and watering.

Description

Echeveria elegans 'Rose' is a small frost-tender succulent plant appreciated by succulent plant enthusiasts for the delicate colour of its rosette foliage as well as its beautiful spring flowering in shades of pink and yellow. With a choice between watery green and silvery blue-green, its leaves are adorned with a pink border in autumn and when temperatures are cooler. It is a plant that is used to create graphic and easy-to-maintain indoor pots.

Echeverias are perennial succulent plants belonging to the family Crassulaceae. These plants are famous for their decorative rosettes of leaves resembling artichokes. Native to dry and rocky areas in central Mexico, the Echeveria genus is particularly sensitive to excess water. These plants require well-drained mineral-rich soil and a bright exposure. Very drought-tolerant, Echeveria still appreciates some watering in summer. The species Echeveria elegans is not frost-tolerant and begins to suffer as soon as the temperature drops below 6 °C. It is cultivated in a pot that is stored indoors, protected from frost, from the beginning of autumn. Echeveria elegans 'Rose' forms a rosette of fleshy, widely flattened, spatulate leaves, covered with a bloom that gives it a more or less glaucous pale green colour. The rosette measures about 8cm (3in) in all directions. With a fairly slow growth, it can spread up to 40-50cm (16-20in) on the ground, through the production of stolons. New rosettes form at the end of these stolons. Flowering occurs from April to June, depending on the growing conditions. It takes the form of small bell-shaped flowers in a fairly bright pink colour, with a yellow throat, borne on arched stems of 15cm that emerge from the axils of the leaves.

Plant Echeveria elegans 'Rose' in a beautiful low and wide planter. It will delight collectors of succulent plants and other cacti. Also create a desert-like mini garden in your home, on the terrace or balcony, by mixing Echeverias with Aloes, small Agaves, Opuntia dwarfs, or Sempervivums for example.

Location

Maintenance and care

Potting advice, substrates and fertilisers

Disease and pest advice
