Very beautiful young plant with a flower whose heart I can't wait to see! For now, the colour seems darker than in the picture.

Description

Originally from northwestern Turkey to the Caucasus, northeastern Greece, the Picotee Oriental Hellebore is a perennial plant with cream veined with pink colour that will brighten up the shaded areas of your garden in winter. It is a hardy plant that can withstand temperatures as low as -15°C (5°F). It has palmate basal leaves, slightly dentate, with a dark green and glossy colour. These are evergreen leaves, 30 to 40cm (12 to 16in) long, composed of 7 to 9 leaflets.

The Oriental Hellebore reaches a height of 40cm (16in) at maturity and spreads over 30cm (12in). From January to March, a bouquet of single flowers forms, measuring 5 to 7cm (2 to 3in) in diameter. These are cup-shaped and inclined flowers. The Hellebore is a bushy plant. It does not like to be moved once established, as the young shoots take some time to bloom.

This toxic plant should be handled with caution. It is suitable both as cut flowers and in borders, beds, or even containers. Over time, Hellebore flowers do not fade like the majority of other flowers, but rather dry out.

Each Hellebore, resulting from sowing, is unique in flower colour: therefore slight colour variations may exist between two plants, which is normal and unavoidable. However, if the difference is too significant and alters the desired effect, we offer a refund or replacement for the affected plant.

Planting and care

The Helleborus Orientalis grows in most soils that are rich and neutral in partial or light shade, while protecting it from the wind. This plant is planted from early autumn to spring to bloom from January to March. It thrives in deeply worked soil mixed with a quantity of organic matter. For fertilization, use bone meal or another organic fertilizer. In acidic soil, preferably add a little lime. Water the plants well after planting and then add a layer of mulch 2 to 5cm (1 to 2in) thick. Regularly remove dead leaves. Cut most of the leaves to highlight the flowers. Be careful not to plant the plants too close to each other to promote their development. Hellebore does not like stagnant water as it may cause it to rot.
