Planting and care

Outside of a few annuals, most lobelias are excellent summer perennials They have the reputation of being poorly hardy but most of the species and varieties we grow have withstood all our winters. The only downside of certain varieties, especially hybrids, is that they can sometimes be short-lived. The crowns hollow out and rot. The best way to make them last is to divide the crowns every 2 to 3 years, preferably in spring. Once regenerated, they will be your companions for life. All of them are deciduous and the foliage completely disappears in winter.
