Description

Verbascum Blue Lagoon is unique, it is the only verbascum with blue flowers instead of yellow! It was awarded in 2011 at the Chelsea Flower Show for its amazing and surprising colour.

Verbascum Blue Lagoon is a hybrid derived from Verbascum luridiflorum. It develops a rosette of dark green evergreen leaves from which stems with incredibly bright blue, cup-shaped flowers with 5 petals appear from June to September.

Verbascum Blue Lagoon likes deep, light, well-drained soil, in a sunny or semi-shady position. It has a short lifespan, but easily multiplies through prolific self-seeding. However, we recommend you cut back the faded flower stalks to prolong its lifespan.

Verbascum Blue Lagoon can be planted in romantic-style gardens or mixed borders combined with shrub roses, campanulate, monardas, veronicas, or pennisetums.

Due to its difficulty in cultivation and its very short lifespan, we have stopped selling this variety.

Planting and care

Verbascum Blue Lagoon is best planted in spring or autumn, in light, well-drained soil, in full sun or partial shade. Remove 80% of its flower spikes once faded, to prevent the plant from dying too early, the remaining spikes will ensure the longevity of the plant by producing a large quantity of seedlings.
